Youth leaders showcased innovative programmes to end AIDS

At the 9th Asia-Pacific Conference on Reproductive and Sexual Health and Rights in Viet Nam, the IATT on Young Key Populations hosted a satellite session to showcase existing innovative service delivery models for young people in the region and promote community-to-community learning experience for programmers and youth-led community-based organizations.

The session is a partnership between UNAIDS Regional Support Team for Asia and the Pacific, UNFPA Asia-Pacific Regional Office, Youth LEAD, Youth Voices Count, YPeer and IPPF. The ACT!2030 alliances from India and the Philippines provided their work in movement building, youth-led advocacy and partnerships with different stakeholders in ensuring an accountable national SDG implementation with strong representation from young people.

Erika Isabel Yague, Youth and Adolescent Consultant at UNFPA Asia-Pacific Regional Office hosted the event and the regional overview of the HIV epidemic was presented by Aries Valeriano, Youth Officer at UNAIDS Regional Support Team for Asia and the Pacific.

The session also invited young panelists representingyouth innovators and leaders in their community. Abhinav Singh of Dove Foundation presented the innovation in youth advocacy and leadership through the ACT!2030 project. From the Philippines, Kliezl Joie Demasuay, from the ACT!2030 Alliance Philippines, showed the critical role of the youth data reporter in gathering data and evidence. Doan Thanh Tung from Lighthouse Social Enterprise, Viet Nam presented innovation in designing youth-friendly services. Lastly, Rukshana Kapali, a young transgender from Nepal and member of Youth LEAD, provided the perspective in youth involvement and accountability particularly from young key populations. She also detailed her experience in joining the TeenGen programme of Youth LEAD.
