Green Building, Materials and Civil Engineering - CRC Press Book

During the last decades natural polymers have become more and more frequent to replace traditional inorganic stabilizers in building materials. The purpose of this research is to establish a comparison between the most conventional building material solutions for load-bearing walls and a type of biomaterial. This comparison will focus on load-bearing walls as used in a widespread type of twentieth century dwelling construction in Europe and still used in developing countries nowadays. To carry out this analysis, the structural and thermal insulation characteristics of different construction solutions are balanced. The tool used for this evaluation is the life cycle assessment throughout the whole lifespan of these buildings. This research aims to examine the environmental performance of each material assessed: fired clay brick masonry walls BW , concrete block masonry walls CW , and stabilized soil block masonry walls SW stabilized with natural fibers and alginates.

In building construction industry, it has been seen that materials, which were being used about a century back, are still very popular. Variety of alternative building materials are available which provide better, efficient, durable and cost effective construction and also ensure judicious utilization of available limited resources with least possible degradation of environment. Building materials and technologies, and building practices have evolved through ages. Housing and building conditions reflect the living standards of a society. Hardly any energy is spent in manufacturing and use of these natural materials for construction.

It seems that you're in Germany. We have a dedicated site for Germany. This book presents select proceedings of the International Conference on Sustainable Construction and Building Materials ICSCBM , and examines a range of durable, energy-efficient, and next-generation construction and building materials produced from industrial wastes and byproducts. The topics covered include alternative, eco-friendly construction and building materials, next-generation concretes, energy efficiency in construction, and sustainability in construction project management. The book also discusses various properties and performance attributes of modern-age concretes including their durability, workability, and carbon footprint. As such, it offers a valuable reference for beginners, researchers, and professionals interested in sustainable construction and allied fields. He has worked as a postdoctoral research associate and adjunct faculty member at the Department of Civil Engineering at Lawrence Technological University, Southfield, Michigan.

The problem of providing low-cost housing of an acceptable quality could possibly be solved by using alternative construction methods and improving the awareness regarding these Although the emphasis here is on designing and building with bamboo, I have included two chapters — on Technology Transfer and Job Creation — so that the publication provides a wider perspective on bamboo. The information presented includes characteristics of the materials in regards to their physical and mechanical properties with emphasis on their strength and durability qualities. New building technologies, and in particular ICT automation and new materials, are. Covers all of the main tasks of the building services engineer Construction and Building Technology introduces students to construction processes and procedures. I believe that this should be so because bamboo is not just a plant or a material; in many parts of the world, bamboo is a vital part of the A feature of some materials, which causes the material to become more brittle after tempering. Construction and Building Technology introduces students to construction processes and procedures.
