Olivia And The Missing Toy by Ian Falconer () - Slap Happy Larry

Olivia and the Missing Toy by Ian Falconer shows Olivia the Pig at her most bratty, and her parents at their most indulgent. There are several versions of the book cover of Olivia and the Missing Toy , and the dark one is the scarier of the two. The other is mostly white space, in keeping with most of the Olivia series. Frances the Badger is a small girl afraid of the dark, tucked up in bed but constantly annoying her parents by coming downstairs and interrupting the television. Why make her into an animal at all?

Summer Read Along: Olivia and The Missing Toy

Olivia Goes to Venice

Frances t. Frances the Badger is a small girl afraid of the dark, tucked up in bed but constantly annoying her parents by coming downstairs and interrupting the television. Why make her into an animal at all? The cosy delights of the Badger household -- so like a human one -- do remove the situation one or two degrees away from discomfort ; some children are afraid of the dark, do dislike being alone. As for Olivia the pig, love her or hate her. Olivia is one popular kidlit character who pisses a lot of parents off, judging by reviews I have read online.

Olivia is a fictional pig character in a series of children's books written and illustrated by Ian Falconer. The Olivia book series was inspired by Ian Falconer's niece, Olivia. The series is different from many children's picture books because of its stark minimalism. Inspired by the style of Dr. Seuss , Falconer chose to draw uncluttered images in black and white with the occasional splash of red, along with the insertion of real artwork by famous artists — Degas and Pollock , for example. Each book in the series explores the use of another signature color in addition to the original black, white and red images.

Olivia has one toy that she loves more than anything. She feeds him, dresses him and takes him everywhere. She looks under the rug, under the sofa, under the cat. She shouts at Ian and baby William, she cries, she stomps Then, one dark and stormy night, Olivia hears a noise Clutching a candelabra, she creeps bravely into her bedroom, and sees a huge menacing shadow on the wall.
