Heat thermodynamics and statistical physics pdf free download
Statistical mechanics - WikipediaStatistical mechanics is one of the pillars of modern physics. It is necessary for the fundamental study of any physical system that has many degrees of freedom. The approach is based on statistical methods, probability theory and the microscopic physical laws. It can be used to explain the thermodynamic behaviour of large systems. This branch of statistical mechanics, which treats and extends classical thermodynamics, is known as statistical thermodynamics or equilibrium statistical mechanics. Statistical mechanics shows how the concepts from macroscopic observations such as temperature and pressure are related to the description of microscopic state that fluctuates around an average state. It connects thermodynamic quantities such as heat capacity to microscopic behavior, whereas, in classical thermodynamics , the only available option would be to measure and tabulate such quantities for various materials.
It seems that you're in Germany. We have a dedicated site for Germany. This textbook offers an advanced undergraduate or initial graduate level introduction to topics such as kinetic theory, equilibrium statistical mechanics and the theory of fluctuations from a modern perspective. The aim is to provide the reader with the necessary tools of probability theory and thermodynamics especially the thermodynamic potentials to enable subsequent study at advanced graduate level. At the same time, the book offers a bird's eye view on arguments that are often disregarded in the main curriculum courses.
